Red-lining started in 1934 when the US government mapped out the country divided by race & decided which communities would get home loans & infrastructure such as hospitals, banks & grocery stores which created the slums in the Black community that still affect us today. This set up the black community to have to deal with predatory lending, lowered property values and so many other negative issues that still hamper our communities. Here are pieces of my latest art project i've been working on called (Red-Line) focusing on black artist that lived in those redlined communities in different cities across the United States of America.
